The Senior Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring compliance with industry standards and quality metrics within Luminator’s Rail division. This role focuses on IRIS certification, quality process improvement, corrective action implementation, customer and supplier engagement, auditing, and continuous improvement in product and process performance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
 
  • Lead and facilitate customer meetings, audits, and quality issue resolution, ensuring customer satisfaction and regulatory compliance.
  • Drive quality metrics by monitoring product and process performance and developing corrective action plans.
  • Develop, modify, and implement quality processes and procedures to meet IRIS standards.
  • Prepare and implement Quality Inspection Instructions for rail products.
  • Conduct internal and supplier audits and manage audit responses, ensuring adherence to quality standards.
  • Engage with suppliers to evaluate, qualify, and improve supplier quality.
  • Use 8D methodology to investigate and address non-conformance reports, collaborating with Engineering for thorough failure analysis.
  • Prepare and present monthly quality performance metrics to senior management.
  • Visit customer and supplier sites as needed to investigate and address quality issues.
  • Support continuous improvement and lean initiatives within the Quality department.
  • Other job duties as required.


POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Problem-Solving: Advanced knowledge of root cause/countermeasure problem-solving methodologies such as 8D and A3.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to lead customer calls and write clear, concise procedures.
  • Technical Proficiency: Expertise in reading and interpreting technical drawings, specifications, and documentation.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and effectively train others in quality protocols.
  • Attention to Detail: Process-oriented with excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Work Under Pressure: Ability to manage multiple priorities and work well under pressure.

Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related field preferred. A minimum of 7 years of quality engineering experience in a rail environment may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Experience: 
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience as a Quality Engineer in a manufacturing environment with a preference in electronics. Experience in the rail or transportation industry a plus.
  • At least 5 years of experience with IRIS certification and ISO processes and standards.
  • Practical knowledge and leadership experience in Lean and/or Six Sigma methodologies.

Technology Skills:  Technical and business knowledge using Microsoft Office is required, including but not limited to Word, Visio, and PowerPoint. Prior experience with ERP environments and planning in database tools required.

Certificates & Licenses: 
  • IRIS certification experience is mandatory.
  • Preferred but not required.

Other Requirements:

Must currently have a valid passport or the ability to obtain within 3 months of starting.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Regularly required to walk, sit, bend, twist, stand, and reach in a typical office environment.
  • Occasional international travel, mainly to Canada and Denmark.
  • Occasionally required to lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Must be able to work consistently on a computer and have specific vision abilities (close, distance, color, and peripheral vision).
